New Leadership, Expanded Opportunities, and Renewed Community Engagement

The change marks a major step forward in expanding access to higher education and community learning opportunities in the region.

Alongside the return to in-person classes, SJC welcomes Regina Torres-Atencio as the new Director of the East Campus. Torres-Atencio also serves as the principal of Vista Nueva High School in Aztec, bringing a strong background in educational leadership, student success, and community engagement to her dual roles.

New Course Offered: Survey of Mathematics

This fall brought the first-ever offering of MATH 1130-2010G: Survey of Mathematics under the instruction of Curtis Elifritz.

This course expanded local options for students pursuing general education requirements.

Continuing Education and Community Resources

In addition to credit courses, SJC East continues to host a variety of community programs, including First Year Experience (FYEX), HiSET high school equivalency preparation and Parent Empowerment sessions offered through the ENLACE/Herencia Latina Initiative.

The campus also provides meeting spaces for both student and community use and features a computer lab open to the public during the following hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 3:30 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 3:30– 6:00 p.m.
  • (No lab hours or classes on Fridays during Fall 2025)

Hours may vary each term based on class scheduling.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the reception area to access college information, Continuing Education catalogs and the latest issue of The Communicator. The front lobby also features a digital screen displaying upcoming events across San Juan County and at SJC’s main campus.

Community Input and Future Opportunities

The East Campus is actively seeking instructors to lead upcoming Community Learning Center (CLC) and ENCORE non-credit classes. These courses enrich the lives of community members of all ages, from creative arts and personal development to professional training.

SJC East invites residents to share ideas for future classes and programs. Feedback plays a vital role in shaping the campus’s ongoing efforts to meet community needs.
