What You'll Learn in the Electric Vehicle and Fuel Cell Certificate Program
Develop the skills you need to repair electric and other alternative fuel vehicles. You can complete this advanced program in two years or less. Important topics include:
- Electric circuits
- Fuel cell operation and safety
- Heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems
- Hybrid and electric vehicle steering, suspension, and brake components and function
- Shop and electric vehicle safety
- Specialized vehicle components
- System diagnosis and repair
At the end of the program, you will need to apply for ASE's Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist (L3) Test. It is the first advanced-level test offered by ASE for light duty hybrid/electric vehicle technicians. You will receive L3 Certification once you pass the exam.

To enroll in the Certificate in Electric Vehicle and Fuel Cell Technology Technician program, you must have completed the graduation requirements of one of the SJC Automotive programs or have equivalent industry experience as determined by SJC's Automotive Program Coordinator. ASE-Accredited Programs in New Mexico
SJC's Automotive Technology programs are accredited by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation. The ASE Education Foundation evaluates and accredits entry-level automotive technology education programs against standards developed by the automotive service industry. It also develops career-readiness education for students, which fuses local partnerships, rigorous standard-based education, workplace experience, and mentorship together.
