When most people think of San Juan College’s Finance Department, they picture budgets, spreadsheets and quiet offices.

San Juan College Employee Balances Precision and Passion

For Sesha Horsecapture, an accounting technician who assists with the budget and grants, life extends far beyond the numbers.

By day, Horsecapture ensures financial accuracy and supports SJC’s mission behind the scenes. Outside the office, she’s built a remarkable career as a runway model, walking for designers at New York Fashion Week and other national events. Her story is one of balance, perseverance and creativity.

Blending Tradition, Creativity, and Representation

For Horsecapture, fashion represents more than personal style; it’s a form of cultural expression and empowerment. She works with designers who weave modern creativity with traditional Native influences to celebrate heritage and identity through fashion.

“It’s about representation,” she explained. “Designs keep us grounded in who we are, but they also adapt to be modern. It’s a way of showing both tradition and creativity at once.”

From Gallup, NM to the Runway

Horsecapture’s path to the fashion world began in Gallup, New Mexico, where she collaborated with Thunderbird Supply Corp. on photo shoots and promotional campaigns. Her confidence and talent soon caught the attention of designers and photographers, paving the way for a modeling career.

Horsecapture has achieved several notable milestones, including:

  • Debuting at New York Fashion Week in September 2024, walking for two Native designers.
  • Modeling at Santa Fe Fashion Week, showcasing Indigenous-inspired designs.
  • Appearing at the Indian Market, an event celebrating Native art and culture.
  • Being featured in the Fall Fashion Issue of Cowboys & Indians magazine.
  • Walking for Kreations by Kehala during Fashion Week 2025.

Despite her national experience, she remains dedicated to her work at SJC, balancing her passion for fashion with her professional role in finance.

Inspiring Students and Colleagues

At SJC, Horsecapture applies the same focus, organization and creativity that have defined her modeling career. Whether managing budgets or walking the runway, she strives for excellence in every role.

Above all, she wants her journey to inspire others, especially Indigenous youth, to pursue their goals fearlessly.

“My advice is simple: take the step,” Horsecapture said. “Sign up for the model call, attend the event, and don’t be afraid of being judged. There’s always a place for you in whatever you wish to do.”

Her story continues to inspire both students and colleagues, especially those finding their own balance between education, work and passions. From the quiet precision of finance to the energy of the runway, she embodies the message that there are many paths to success.
